Part of a growing series of residential alteration projects, House Wiid leverage the benefits of lightweight prefabrication for rapid, low-impact construction. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms are added to the house in a single, distinguishable, corrugated metal shed-like addition.
This project takes a unique approach, utilising CLT as load-bearing and internal walls in combination with more conventional timber roof and floor structures. By using mass timber in only the walls, the project could achieve a quick assembly time while still staying cost competitive. Building on the precedent of House Taylor, this addition demonstrated how mass timber can be used to beautifully adapt a home to changing needs whilst minimising disruption, minimising modifications to the existing building structure and minimising impact on the environment.
